How to pair food and Malbec

Marques de Casa Concha

We invite you to discover a little more about Malbec, a red wine known as an excellent pairing for the grill, but which has much more to offer.

Considering that Malbec favors warm climates, it is no surprise that around 75% of the global production of this varietal comes from the New World, Argentina to be exact. And the rest? From its country of origin, France (in Cahors), the United States, Australia, New Zealand, and Chile.

Used in blends (like the famous Bordeaux blends) or in single-varietal wines, Malbec grapes are known for producing robust wines that are high in tannins with black fruit aromas such as blackberry and plum. These wines are also usually aged in wooden barrels. This makes Malbec a wine that ages quite nicely, developing meaty and nutty aromas.

Marques de Casa Concha Malbec, from the Lourdes Vineyard in Maipo Valley, is a complex wine with multiple layers of aromas, a delicate mineral touch, with firm, soft tannins, and just 20% barrel-aged. To bring wines like these to the dinner table, we recommend the following pairings.

Cheddar cheeseburger

For a classic hamburger and French fries, a red wine like Malbec that goes well with beef is an excellent option. After all, a hamburger is little more than ground beef and, in most cases, a healthy dose of fat. Throw a touch a cheddar cheese in the mix, and a robust wine with high tannins to offset the grease and fruitiness that envelopes the meat makes for the perfect combo.

Lamb tagine with plums

This traditional Moroccan dish consists of slow-cooked lamb meat and is highly fragrant thanks to the use of a variety of spices including cumin, paprika, cinnamon, and turmeric, giving it a lot of flavor. It is also usually accompanied by dry fruits such as apricots or plums, whose sweet notes pair well with the sweetly spiced notes found in Marques de Casa Concha Malbec. Serve with couscous to round out the meal.

Dark chocolate truffles

And moving on to sweeter dishes, there is nothing that tops chocolate truffles. But these must be made from dense dark chocolate, so that Marques de Casa Concha Malbec can do its job of washing the cocoa down. At the same time, the chocolate brings out the secondary aromas in the wine, offering a truly sublime experience.
