The aromas of Merlot

Francisca JaraFrancisca Jara

Francisca Jara

Due to its great ability to adapt to various climates, this typical Bordeaux red variety stands out for offering medium to full-bodied wines, with moderate acidity, alcohol and present but very soft tannins. In addition, of course, of distinctive aromas.

Merlot is one of the most adored red grape varieties in the world. Without going any further, they are the basis of Bordeaux and Super Tuscans blends. Merlot gives them colour but also its delicious silky tannins. Here we tell you about the exquisite aromas that characterize this exceptional grape.

Fresh plum

Among the primary aromas of fresh fruit, a distinctive plum note usually appears in Merlot that can be accompanied by other notes of red fruits such as cherries, currants or raspberries, especially when it comes from cool climates.

Blackberries

When Merlot comes from warmer climates, it is very likely to present notes of ripe black fruits such as blueberries, but also notes of baked fruits or blackberry jam, for example.

Clove

In Merlot, aromas of spices such as clove and vanilla appear when the wine has been in contact with wooden barrels. Marques de Casa Concha Merlot, for example, is aged for 14 months in French oak barrels and foudres, which are evident through the pleasant spiced notes of this wine.

Chocolate

As this wine ages and evolves in the bottle, it can also develop other aromas reminiscent of chocolate, leather or even tobacco. These aromas are accompanied by great characteristics such as a silky palate.

In the month of Merlot, we invite you to enjoy this chameleon-like variety with Marques de Casa Concha Merlot. A wine from the Maule Valley that presents delicate notes of red fruits such as cherries, raspberries, currants and berries, accompanied by a pleasant touch of oak and elegant tannins. With a sweet, persistent and captivating finish.
