Marcelo Papa, lead winemaker of Marques de Casa Concha, met with different Chilean media outlets in an online tasting to introduce and taste 3 varietals by Marques de Casa Concha: Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere, all from the 2018 harvest.

In this encounter, Marcelo spoke about the particularities of the 2017-2018 season: an optimal climate with normal precipitation, outstanding grape quality and good vineyard management – which translated to a truly extraordinary 2018 vintage.

Likewise, he talked about each of the varietals’ vineyards: the San Julian Vineyard in the Limarí Valley where the Pinot Noir comes from- which is a coastal vineyard, with cool breezes during most of the day and highly mineral soils, thanks to the presence of calcium carbonate. The Puente Alto and Pirque Vineyards in the Maipo Valley, where the Cabernet Sauvignon is grown- with its semi-arid Mediterranean climate, with a strong influence of the Andes mountains. And the Peumo Vineyard in the Colchagua Valley, the birthplace of the Carmenere- a vineyard with a Mediterranean climate, highly influenced by the Cachapoal River and Lake Rapel.

Following a presentation on the harvest, participants had the chance to taste the three wines and talk about each of the varietals in terms of their winemaking processes, tasting notes, and pairings.
